PHILADELPHIA, PA – December 12, 2012 – NBC10 Philadelphia announced today that Brittney Shipp will be joining the station as a meteorologist starting in January 2013. Shipp joins NBC10 from KTVK-3TV in Phoenix, Arizona, where she has been a weekend meteorologist and special assignment reporter since 2007.
Shipp joins Philadelphia’s veteran meteorology team, led by Chief Meteorologist Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz. Collectively the team represents over 50 years of experience, making NBC10 the premier weather source for viewers in and around the Delaware Valley.
“Providing our viewers with the best possible weather information is always one of our main goals,” said Anzio Williams, Vice President of News for NBC10 Philadelphia. “Brittney’s exceptional skills, along with her warmth and enthusiasm, will be a great addition to our team.”
Shipp started her television career in 2006 at NBC affiliate KYMA in Yuma, Arizona. While there she reported on weather and special features for the station’s weekday morning news.
Shipp earned a degree in international development studies with an emphasis in communication from The University of California at Los Angeles, where she was the recipient of the Jackie Robinson UCLA Scholarship. She later graduated from Mississippi State University with a Certificate of Broadcast Meteorology.
Shipp served as a mentor in the Junior Forecasters Program at the Arizona Science Center in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, and has also been active in community efforts supporting The Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Arizona Humane Society.
Originally from Los Angeles, Shipp will be relocating to the Philadelphia area.
